Airport

Charlotte is served by Charlotte Douglas International Airport (airport code CLT), the second largest airport in the US, and US Airway’s largest hub. CLT is about 15 minutes from downtown Charlotte.

StarCityGames.com Travel Team Recommendations:

Book your flight at least three weeks in advance to secure the best fares. The earlier the better.

Use search engines such as itasoftware.com and kayak.com to compare fares across airlines.

Book your flights mid-week—fares tend to go up over the weekends and come back down again during the week.

If you fly frequently, be sure to check out airline frequent flyer programs such as United MileagePlus, US Airways Dividend Miles, and Delta SkyMiles. In addition to being able to put miles toward flights, reaching status tiers earns free checked bags, priority seating and check in, and even free upgrades.

Transportation

Cab fare from the airport to the City Center, including downtown hotels, is about $25. Three cab companies are approved to pick up passengers from the airport:

City Cab (704-333-3327)

Crown Cab (704-334-6666)

Yellow Cab (704-444-4444)

All three accept cash and credit cards. An attendant is available at the airport most of the day to help you locate a cab.

Fares to and from other destinations within Charlotte are $2.50 per mile, plus a pick-up charge, and $2 per person after the second.

None of the downtown hotels offer complimentary shuttle service to and from the airport.
